With the advances made in the last decades, we started to incorporate and use technology for almost everything in our routines. In the opinion of Leonardo Micussi, physical trainer of Braus Fight athletes, the advent of the internet brought an opportunity for Jiu-Jitsu practitioners.
According to him, online training, a method that gained more evidence during the pandemic, represents an advance in relation to the preparation available in conventional gyms.
“It is necessary to be clear that it will not be any type of training or professional that will be able to deliver good results throughout the work”, explains Leonardo. “For example, a ‘traditional’ bodybuilding, with divisions of the training routine by muscle groups (bodybuilder type) and prescribed by a professional who does not know the needs of his sport (Jiu Jitsu), is not the best option, even if it is done face to face. And here’s the point: most professionals who work in gyms are not specialized in sports preparation, and when we narrow it down to combat sports, that number gets even smaller.”
According to him, the counterproposal of online fitness is to offer specific training for the fighter, providing exercises that contribute to increasing performance during combat. This service can be made available through a video conference, individually or with other practitioners, or even through a training sheet focused on the requirements of your sport.
“Both forms, in my opinion, are more interesting for a fighter than a training prescribed by a professional who doesn’t know Jiu-Jitsu and doesn’t cover the basic needs for a good performance in it.”
Another option is the personalized training, which is based not only on the martial art, but on the practitioner’s particularities. Thus, the preparation is formulated taking into account the athlete’s needs, limitations, objectives and competition calendar. These aspects are obtained through assessments made by the instructor and serve to record the client’s evolution during training, schedule their training so that they do not interfere in their disputes and avoid excessive efforts that could impact their performance.
“This monitoring allows for the total individualization of training, being pointed out by science as an indispensable part of preparation programs for athletes who aim to compete with the highest possible performance”, explains Leonardo.
